ILHA DO BANANAL / LAGOA DE CONFUSAO
Bom Dia, Boa Tarde e Boa Noite!
My name is Raimunda, I'm your guide for Friends of Rio and your Guide for Tocantins, Ilha Bananal.
If you want to learn about the unique ecosystem of Ilha Bananal, Tocantins, see animals such as Deer, Caiman, Turtles and Tortoises, Capybara, Jaguar, Fish, Snakes and Lizards, and Birds then come join us.
If you want an insight into the Traditional Land Owners of the Island, the Javae and Karaja Peoples, with our tours; you will visit or live with our people and learn about our culture day by day.
Our Tours help our communities by giving them much-needed finances for food, fuel, and other items that they may need. Their natural way of life continues through rituals, construction of our traditional homes, hunting, gathering, and fishing.
The pressures of agriculture across the river have forced the Javae and Karaja to remain within the Island and lose their fertile grounds surrounding the island. This results in them not being 100% sustainable as traditionally they once were.
Our site promotes Conservation in Brazil, and we are in support of the facts, that show Indigenous People hold a better idea of Conservation of Brazil and their lands than anyone.
So, we ensure the Javae and Karaja ways of life and traditions are respected and your tour with us will help them retain these traditions and rich history.
